The BigBite Team members Amy Rivera, Phil Asbury, Job Keller, and Dayo Adeyemi brought us their 3rd Annual Philly Chili Bowl.
The event was hosted at Fleisher Art Memorial on 719 Catherine Street and it was wall to wall packed. BigBite Philly brought out 20 chili contestants battling to win such prizes as: two seats at any upcoming class at Audrey Claire's Cook, the BigBite legendary Trophy and of course, bragging rights.
BigBite pulled out all the stops. Besides having some amazing prizes, they brought out some well known judges such as: Drew Lazor from City Paper, Joe Bernstein from People's Republic Food Truck, Kevin Sbraga from Sbraga, Lily Cope from Cook, and Emilio Mignucci from Di Bruno Brothers. They had their hands full at the Chili Bowl deciding the winner's for the contest.
The Chili Bowl was also donating excess food and a portion of the proceeds to Project H.O.M.E.(http://www.projecthome.org/) which is a nonprofit organization that provides housing and services to homeless men and women in Philadelphia. The Narragansett Ladies were also out providing free beer to wash down all the amazing chili.
After a few hours of judging we met the People's Choice Winner:Kate Collins for her Beef Chili Filipino Style followed by 1st Prize Winners: Matthew Coll and Louis A. Cook for their Pet Cemetary Chili. The vibe was awesome and the air was filled with the sweet smells of chili. DJ Femstar kept the music going until the end!
