Awesome Idea: Graphic Novel Adaptations

by Kirsten Stamn

Who doesn't like graphic novels?  Whether you're a prepubescent boy or an adult looking to spice up your bookshelf, these publications are just plain awesome.  Great storylines and vibrant graphics have made this type of book more accessible and popular than in the past.  I, for one, am all for it.

One of the newest adaptations into graphic novel form is the story The Last Unicorn, which has earned high praise.  Now before you laugh and shrug this off, give it a chance.  The Last Unicorn has been both a novel and a children's film, earning rave reviews for both.  Written by Peter B. Gillis and illustrated by Renae De Liz, the book was originally going to be a six-issue mini-series.

Definitely check out this graphic novel.  The illustrations are fantastic and it's a refreshing read for when you have a little downtime.  Check out its review in The New York Times.
