ReelBlack Presents: Leaked Night At The Five Spot

by Mercedes Jones
A Look Back at The Jazzyfatnastees and A Bold Musical Movement...

On Tuesday, May 8th  ReelBlack will celebrate the 10 year anniversary of  the music documentary Jazzyfatnastees: In Process.  The festivities will include a special screening of the movie, as well as the release & screening of their much anticipated DVD Leaked At The Five Spot.

Directed by Michael Dennis, Leaked At The Five Spot is a look back at The Black Lily--the epicenter of the Neo-Soul movement that flourished during the late 90's and early 2000's.

The Black Lily was a Tuesday night ritual for every musically inclined and forward thinking urbanite, within ear shot of Philadelphia.  Hungry for something new and different, these proverbial locust would descend on the weekly showcase.  Thereby forming bonds; spawning a genre of music;  and catapulting the careers of artist like Kindred the Family Soul, Lady Alma, Jaguar Wright and more.

The film features a selection of movie clips, and includes 50 minutes of bonus performances that were captured at the Black Lily Showcase between 1999 and 2005.  The DVD will be available at the screening and is sure to take you right back to late nights in The Five Spot's second floor lounge.

The event will be hosted at the International House in West Philly and the celebration kicks off at 7 PM, with appearances from some of the Black Lily all-stars that we know and love.

Admission is $9.00 for adults and $7.00 for students & seniors.  All ReelBlack Season 9, Scribe Video Center and International House members are welcomed with free admission!
