Thanks to Boardwalk Empire, I can make an educated guess that Bader Field in Atlantic City is named after Ed Bader. It’s where Dave Matthews Band did their two day thing last year and it’s where Metallica is going to do their two day thing this year. Two year things just seem to be thing these past couple years. But judging from the full line-up released yesterday- there might be a little different vibe at Metallica’s two day thing than at the DMB Caravan shows last summer. I’m thinking- less Frisbee tossing and more whiskey drinking.
This summer Metallica is heading to the majestic seaside oasis of Atlantic City for the Orion Music + More festival, a two day festival on June 23 and 24. They’ll be joined New Jersey dudes Gaslight Anthem, as well as the Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, Titus Andronicus, Best Coast, the heavy metal comedy of Jim Breuer, Gary Clark Jr. and more. Have you heard Clark? Man they have been playing him on WXPN and he’s legit- really gritty blues rock. It’s surprising that it’s not more of a hard rocking festival, just more of an interestingly running-the-musical-scope of rock festival. Either way, sounds like a good amount of fun and rad way to spend a summer weekend. Especially if you remember to wear sunscreen and properly hydrate.
Metallica headlines both nights and on each night will be playing one of their albums in its entirety- Ride the Lightning one night and The Black Album on the other night.
Two day passes for the big rock show start at $150. Travel packages are available as well. You can find all about the festival at their website.
